With the 2017 Markham Pan Am Annual Pickleball Tournament fast approaching, many of our club members are practicing up to prepare for their matches.

Here are all of the key documents to-date:

There are still errors in the latest revision (Nov-07) of the Team Groupings. Nizar Moosa, the Tournament Organizer has indicated to me that he'll be sending out a corrected version in a future communication. I'll publish it here once it becomes available.

Below are all of the email updates sent to-date from the Tournament Organizer to all tournament participants:

Email Update: November 7, 2017

Hi All,

I hope you all are looking forward to the Markham Pan Am – Annual Pickleball Tournament which will take place on November 11 & 12, 2017.

We are excited to share that we have filled all the spots for the tournament. We have also increased 2 spots in both Mixed Doubles 3.5 over and Mixed Doubles 3.5 under to accommodate registered players. Given the mixed doubles event is on Sunday, we have luxury to add more time. Both the Mixed Doubles Events will have 14 teams instead of 12 teams. Each pool in Mixed Doubles Events will have 7 teams and each team will play against each other once (6 matches) to determine the top 2 teams from each pool who will play the playoff rounds.

All the players need to report 30 minutes prior to their event start time. Please see the schedule below in regarding to event start time and players reporting time:

We have contacted school teachers, principals and school boards to increase the registration number for the youth tournament. We haven’t received a great response due to other program school teachers are running for the students. We have decided to open the courts for the youth to come and tryout pickleball on Sunday, November 12 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm.

Balls: Markham Pan Am Centre will provide competition balls

First Aid: Markham Pan Am Centre will supply first aid kit with cold packs, bandages etc.

Match administration & Tournament Rules:

All round matches will be self refereed. We have a team of volunteers who will perform court marshals duties. All players must abide by the court marshals decision in the event there are any discrepancies
All players will be responsible for completing their scoresheet after the match (follow court marshal’s lead) · All playoff matches will be administered by the referees
7" pickleball will be placed on all courts
The format of the tournament will be round robin
Each team will play 5 matches during the round robin (Mixed Event players will play 6 matches)
A match will consist of two games to 11 points with non-rally scoring. All the games will be capped at 15 points
All matches will need to be completed within 35 minutes
After every 35 minutes, a buzzer will go off and all players will be required to stop play
The top 2 teams from each pool (4 teams total) will move on to the playoff round
The winner of Pool A will play the runner up of Pool B & winner of Pool B will play the runner up of Pool A during the playoff round
Below is the process of how a team will move into the playoff round:

Email Update: November 3, 2017

Hello All,

Thank you for your patience as we finalize the schedule for the Annual Pickleball Tournament.

I have attached an updated team grouping for your review. We had found few discrepancies which has been fixed. We will share the final tournament schedule and draws early next week as we are trying to automate the scoresheet for minimize the data entry error.

Please note, November 11 is Remembrance Day & we will pay our respect by observing a minute of silence during the tournament.

Email Update: November 1, 2017

Hello All,

I hope you all are doing well and looking forward to the Markham Pan Am Centre – Annual Pickleball Tournament, sponsored by Pickleball Depot which will take place on November 11 & November 12, 2017.

I am very excited to share that we only have 1 team spot available in the women’s 3.5 – under event. We are also working with school teachers to ensure we increase the number of youth teams to display a meaningful competition.

To ensure we finish all the matches in a timely fashion, we have allocated 35 minutes for each match (2 games need to complete within 35 minutes). Below is the tournament schedule and timing:

There will be 5 to 10 minutes break between each round. The 35 minutes allocated time includes warm-up/rally-time before the players mutually agree to start their match.
