Hi everyone,

Spring is upon us and I hope you're enjoying this wonderful new season. It won't be long before our club transitions from heating to air conditioning.

I have some updates and reminders for you, so here is your Monthly Newsletter for April 2019.

Request for Club Volunteers

As mentioned in this website post, our Club President, Mike Livie is looking for volunteers to help close the club after the pickleball sessions are over.

If you're able to commit to helping close up on any of Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday at 1 pm, and/or Tuesday, Thursday at 12 noon, please see Mike or email him directly (mike@progresspickleball.com).

Volunteers Needed for Scoring Research

A friendly reminder that one of our members, Petio Zahariev, is looking for volunteers to help him conduct his research on rally scoring versus non-rally scoring.

He's planning on collecting data at the upcoming Toronto Cup Pickleball Tournament on April 13th and 14th.

For more information or if you're interested in helping out, please see this website post.

Loneliness Is Bad for Your Health - Pickleball Can Help

In case you missed it, Tim Pennal is a regular member at Progress and shared with us an interesting article.

It originally appeared in the New York Times and Tim put an interesting spin on it by making it relevant to pickleball.

Check out the article and Tim's comments in this website post.

Pickleball Magazines

As per our Twitter feed (@291Progress), some new pickleball magazines were released earlier this month. And because they're in digital format, they're easily accessible to you for reading online.

Here are the relevant tweets with links:

  • The latest edition of our favourite #pickleball magazine is out! Thanks to @PickleballMag1 for the March/April 2019 electronic edition
  • #Pickleball Canada just published their latest newsletter and it's now in the form of a quarterly magazine called #Pickleball Matters. Thanks to @PickleballCA for the latest Spring 2019 issue

Deals on Pickleball Equipment

As we get closer to Easter, look for many pickleball vendors to offer pickleball equipment and accessories at discounted prices. This is just my two-cents to you based on what I've seen in the past.

Such vendors include our own supplier PickleballDepot. And remember that in addition to any Easter Specials that PickleballDepot may offer, Progress members also get 10% off from them.

So if you're in the market for pickleball equipment, be on the lookout for deals around Easter.

Pickleball Items for Sale by Member

One of our members, Sara McInnes, is selling a pair of Prince T22 Women's Tennis Shoes and a Selkirk Drawstring Bag.

For more information and to see her offers, please see this website post.

Pickleball Tournaments

The pickleball tournament season is now in full swing here in Ontario. On average, there are about 2 tournaments per month.

In case you're not aware, the mini-calendar on our website shows most of the past and upcoming pickleball tournaments in Ontario. I attempt to continually aggregate all of the Ontario tournaments I can find and then post them on our calendar so that we have a single location for tournament listings.

Special Member Shout-Out

A big thank you goes out to Emily Ottawa who every Sunday bakes fresh banana cakes and shares them with our players! Thank you so much Emily!
